CalPets ("CalPets", "we", "us") is an iPhone app that turns your daily activity into care for a virtual pet. This policy explains what information we collect through the CalPets app and the calpets.fun website, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have.

  • We only read the Apple Health data needed for daily progress: steps, active energy and workouts. We never write to Apple Health.
  • We do not sell your personal information and never use health data for advertising.
  • You can delete your account and its data at any time from inside the app.

1. Information we collect

Account information. You sign in with Apple. We receive a stable Apple user identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address (which may be an Apple private relay address). Your shared name is only used as the starting nickname for your Keeper profile, which you can change at any time.

Health and activity data. With your permission, CalPets reads your step count, active energy burned and workouts from Apple Health. To calculate progress and rewards we store daily totals on our servers — steps, active calories and workout minutes — together with your daily goals and whether each goal was met. We do not collect heart rate, locations, routes or any other Health data types.

App and game data. Your pets, growth, Bond, personality traits, seasons and rituals you join, rewards, collection, and settings such as language, notification times, daily goals and time zone.

Purchase information. Payments are processed by Apple; we never receive your card details. To verify memberships we and our subscription provider receive purchase records such as product, transaction identifiers, purchase dates and subscription status.

Diagnostics and usage data. In release builds the app sends usage events (for example, screens viewed and features used) and crash or error reports. These include device model, OS and app version, an app instance identifier, approximate region derived from your IP address and an internal random account ID — never your name, email or Health data.

Support communications. If you contact us, we receive your email address, your message and any diagnostic details you choose to include.

Website. When you visit calpets.fun, our hosting provider processes technical data such as IP address and browser type to deliver and secure the site. With your consent we also use analytics cookies to understand how the site is used.

2. How we use information

  • Provide the core experience: calculate daily progress, grow your pet, run seasons and rituals, and grant rewards.
  • Sync your progress across devices signed in with the same Apple Account.
  • Verify and restore memberships and purchases.
  • Schedule reminders you turn on (notifications are scheduled on your device).
  • Understand usage, fix bugs and improve stability and design.
  • Respond to support requests, prevent abuse and fraud, and meet legal obligations.

We process information on the basis of providing the service you request (contract), our legitimate interests in operating and improving CalPets, your consent (for example Health access and website analytics cookies), and legal obligations.

3. Apple Health data

Health access is optional and controlled by you in iOS. Health data is used solely to provide CalPets features. In line with Apple's HealthKit rules, we do not use Health data for advertising or data mining, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties except service providers that host our backend under confidentiality obligations. You can revoke access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → CalPets.

4. Service providers we share information with

We share information only with providers that help us run CalPets, and only for that purpose:

  • Cloudflare — app backend, database, image delivery and website hosting.
  • Supabase — sign-in session management for Sign in with Apple.
  • RevenueCat — membership and purchase verification.
  • Google Firebase (Google Analytics) — app and website usage analytics. Advertising features are disabled.
  • Sentry — app crash and error monitoring, with personal data collection turned off.
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases and Apple Health.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a business transfer, in which case this policy will continue to apply.

5. International transfers

Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the providers' standard contractual clauses.

6. Data retention

We keep account, activity and game data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your CalPets data is permanently removed from our production database right away and your sign-in identity is deleted shortly after. Limited records may remain in encrypted backups or provider logs for a short period before they expire. Analytics and error data are kept according to the retention settings of the respective providers.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Delete your account: Profile → App Settings → Delete Account. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription.
  • Health access: change it at any time in iOS Settings.
  • Notifications: turn reminders on or off in App Settings or iOS Settings.
  • Website analytics: accept or decline cookies, and change your choice via "Cookie preferences" in the site footer.

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA or China's PIPL), you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, email yyzs.apps@gmail.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Children

CalPets is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access to production systems is restricted, and sign-in tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work hard to protect your information.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the date above; for material changes we will also let you know in the app.
